Tifereth Israel Synagogue (TIS) seeks to hire a Director of Early Childhood Education who will oversee the daily operation of its thriving 140 student Silverman Preschool and summer camp, in addition to running Early Childhood programming for congregational families and their children. The successful candidate will manage teaching staff and work with Synagogue staff such as the Rabbi, Programming Director and Director of Jewish Education and Youth Engagement to offer a rich and robust offering of Jewish programming and curriculum and to promote the Silverman Preschool mission. This is a full-time position that reports to the TIS Rabbi and VP of Youth and Education.

Key Job Responsibilities

Administrative and Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise classroom and staff schedules
  • Assist staff in planning class curriculum, develop curriculum for Preschool and Summer Camp Programs
  • Create and maintain policies and procedures to ensure the health and safety for students, staff, and families
  • Ensure that children are meeting developmental milestones
  • Conduct classroom observations
  • Maintain Preschool campus and equipment, purchase equipment and school supplies as needed
  • Prepare and monitor annual Preschool budget
  • Seek out grant opportunities
  • Conform to licensing regulations and contact regulatory agencies (Cal. State Licensing, Dept. of Social Services)
  • Maintain current and proper records for California licensing and other required administrative forms, including student health records

Marketing and Community Relations

  • Communicate frequently with parents, synagogue staff, and synagogue leadership
  • Conduct tours for prospective parents and children on an ongoing basis
  • Maintain the Silverman Preschool website
  • Represent TIS and Silverman Preschool in the larger San Diego Jewish Community

Synagogue/Congregational Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Rabbi and Synagogue Staff on opportunities to further engage families in all areas of synagogue life

Required Skills and Experience

  • Early Childhood Education: 5 years
  • Supervisory and/or Directorial role: 1 years +
  • Meets all Title 22 requirements for an Infant Director
  • Proficient in Title 22 licensing requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Child Development, Early Childhood Education or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Budgeting and Program management
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as a team leader and team player

Preferred Skills & Knowledge

  • Familiarity with Judaism and Jewish traditions

Compensation

  • Starting at $60,000/yr, commensurate with experience
